Top 5 Beers of All Time

Information comes from Untappd. The order is based on how much I talk about the beer, highest being the most chatted about. My own photo credits unless stated. And yes, I do have a type…

Sweet Potato Souffle Rye Ale – Odd Sides Ales, Grand Haven, MI

Rye Beer

11% ABV

I don’t shut the fuck up about this one. Any beer lover I have had try this loves it. It started as a random season beer from Odd Sides. I liked their beer but Bean Flicker (probably the most famous from them), made me super sick. I was excited to try this even though EACH beer was $13. And it was worth EVERY penny. It comes in cans now and is available every winter pretty consistently since 2020. Had it on draft for the first time in 2023 and it blew my mind again. So fucking great.

White Chocolate Blonde – Grand Armory Brewing, Grand Haven, MI

Blonde / Golden Ale

5% ABV

Another lovely creamy beer. It tastes like melted vanilla ice cream to me! I used to get my growler filled up at Horrock’s with this. It is a staple when I go back to East Lansing to visit Steve. Shout out to On the Rocks for always having it!

Kasteel Rouge – Belgium

Donker (Quad) and cherry liquor

8% ABV

So I got this wonderful little cup and apparently this is the beer that lives in it! Finally got to try it in Amsterdam at this awesome little bar just off the red light district and it didn’t disappoint! Shoutout to Steve and Malfay for the Dutch adventure!

Tripel – Loveland Aleworks, Loveland, CO

Belgian Tripel

7% ABV

So creamy and rich. Really surprised me, doesn’t have the usual flavor profile of a tripel.

London Fog – Short’s Brewing Company, Elk Rapids, MI

Brown Ale / English

6.75% ABV

This was an early try in my drinking “real” beer journey at 22/23. And I really really loved it. I had it one more time in the pandemic but haven’t had a chance to try it again since.

The Ghost of Neapolitan – Sagatuck Brewing Co., Sagatuck, MI

Stout – White / Golden

6% ABV

This is not to be confused with Sagatuck’s famous Neapolitan Milk Stout though, I do love the stout glasses I have from their brewery. THIS one is a retired, slightly different version (the vanilla part instead of the chocolate portion). Had it at one of my favorite bars, Taps 25 in Lansing, MI, while my friend Katie was working. She recommended it and I was in love. Sagatuck has a beautiful location out in west Michigan, close to the lake. Definitely worth the trip.

Cold Brew 2.0 – Rogue Ales, Newport, OR

Blonde / Golden Ale – Other

5.6% ABV

My first 5 star rating on Untappd. The first time I had it was at the brewery on the river while on vacation with Dan. I know for a fact that beer drank at the brewery makes the beer yummier!

Big Bad Baptist Reserve (Release #15) – Epic Brewing Company, Salt Lake City, UT

Stout – Imperial / Double

13.6%

A deeply rich beer with an ABV to match. I honestly think this the only good thing to come out of Salt Lake City. I haven’t had any of the newer releases but this one I had in 2019 and it was just wild!

Bird on a Wire – Crispin Cider Company, Colfax, CA

Cider – Traditional / Whiskey Cask Aged

6.9% ABV

I drank this in 2021 but it was from 2014. They don’t make it any more which is a bummer. It was fucking great!

Rekorderlig Pear – Abro Bryggeri, Vimmerby, Kalmar lan Sweden

Cider – Perry / Poire

4.5% ABV

I want my water to taste like this.
